Fontaines D.C. in NYC: Concert Review

All right so I’m going to talk about the Fontaines D.C. concert that I went to on Sunday with my friend cuz we like Fontaines D.C. and it was at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City it was awesome it was incredible I loved it I mean I love them but I will say the last time I saw them in October of last year 2024 I wasn’t really listening to them too much so since then I’ve been like how would I even say that like binging all their albums and especially the newest one of course romance which I’ll talk about separately in another time and yeah that show was awesome it was like we were so up close we were literally in the third row I think at one point because there was a mosh pit kept getting pushed forward it was amazing

I will say and this is just like on me my review of this concert is a little bit like I feel like I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could have but that was my own fault because I was focused on recording a lot of the songs because I felt like since I’d seen him twice before I was like well this time I can focus on recording a bit more than sometimes I do that when I’ve been to an artist multiple times I’m like okay well now I can get a proper recording of the song and other times especially if it’s the first time I’m seeing them I only do really short clips so I can you know enjoy the concert itself cuz I’m a strong believer in that but this time I figured I really want to get like at least you know like a decent recording on songs I really like by them anyways so we can just go through the setlist I’ll just say songs when my one and then you know we’ll go through it I’ll probably talk about all of them but you know so they played they started with romance typical amazing the way that they did it this time was really cool cuz it was like they came in one by one which was interesting I think last time they were already on stage when they started and it was the curtain that falls down if I remember correctly and that was really fun this time it was more like one by one they joined the song the intro and then they like until Grand showed up and saying and all right yeah so romance classic great I’m also going through my concert videos at the same time so I can remind myself yeah the great I think I mean the big reason I enjoyed this concert so much was obviously because we were so up close and I felt like they were right in front of me even if in some of the videos and I’ll try to post them as well as a pictures like it looks a little bit further but they were right in front of me it was crazy and yeah that’s all I have to say I love Korean chatting I am obsessed with him my friend is obsessed with Carlos and also this one guy that I forget his name already but he’s not really I think in the main lineup I think he’s just always kind of in the back playing like the supporting instruments anyways incredible performance last time we saw them I have to give more contacts cuz we saw them in October there was something happened right at the beginning of the concert that we still don’t really know what happened but Carlos ended up coming up his head with the towel the rest of the concert and I don’t know if technically that was like because of what happened or just cuz he decided to but he basically couldn’t see his face for the rest of the show and it kind of I don’t know it just kind of felt like it wasn’t the best representation of them somehow because of that like something someone probably did something stupid in the audience and like I don’t know you know stuff like that happen but if this time it felt more authentic basically is what I mean to say it felt like they were happier they enjoyed it more and therefore we enjoyed it more the mosh pit this time because we were so close to the front was like we were just in the front of it which I think is a better position to be in than you know in it which I think is what happened more last time like I feel like we were literally just pushed towards the front more and more so it wasn’t like I mean obviously we were part of it but it wasn’t as bad I think his last time cuz I don’t sorry but I don’t particularly enjoy Pitts I just try to like avoid them just cuz I don’t know sorry but yeah I feel like this one was it was still crazy and then we still crowd surfing and stuff but it didn’t feel like there was one point where I thought I was like going to break my arm but other than that cuz I was holding my arm up and all your position cuz I was recording when it started so I thought that my arm was going to get like knocked in the wrong position but it did it and it’s fine so everything’s fine and then but yeah that’s what I’ll say about that

so yes I started with romance and went to Jackie down the line that one’s a classic for a set it’s just it’s just good televise mine honestly it’s not like my favorite song so I don’t care too much to be honest it’s just yeah Roman Holiday actually I don’t listen to often but I think it’s like a fun song that they always play Big Shot that one’s like I I think it’s underrated and I don’t give it enough credit either and I don’t listen to it as much as I think I should because it’s honestly like a really good song and they did a great performance of it it was awesome death Kink classic like that one’s just like of the new ones don’t just hit so good and I used to be really obsessed with that song especially after the last time we saw them and I was playing it like Non-Stop and it’s just so far I have a good video I think of that one and it’s just such a fun song and that one’s the most I don’t think the Marshall started by then but because it’s already later on but it was it was really really fun that song Sundowner not really my favorite sorry but it’s like beautiful obviously you can get to hear Tom saying which is great also that was a big thing that we were standing in front of where Tom and Carlos we’re standing or sitting like you know where the Palestinian flag is so we were like on that side riding in front of them so that was sort of the movie I had like a perfect view of time for like half of the concert before like started and I got moved more towards the middle so like it was like really fun being in front of him during that song cuz it just like you hear that and like I think Carlos saw something I forgot the other guy’s name to be honest sorry he might have been the other one singing it though but yeah anyways just like I love you it’s amazing to be young also probably my least favorite of the newest songs like from the deluxe but it’s a great song it’s just I like that they are doing more like personal sort of more touchy feely songs I guess that are kind of softer but still clearly have like their you know their sense they’re way of making music I guess is still really displayed and so I really like and respect that song I guess yeah and then right after that they did their lives I didn’t realize at the time that it was alive debut of before you I just forget the newest one until like in that moment when I figure they were going to play it and I was really happy to hear cuz I really like that song that’s definitely my favorite of the newest ones from like the deluxe I still I think favorites from romance but yes I really really liked the performance for that one I just I’ll probably post that video too if I can and it’s it’s just it’s so good it’s so and I didn’t find out it was alive debut it was like crazy cuz considering we were the last night at the tour and like the last of the three nights of New York it’s crazy that that was when they decided to do it but yeah it was great big classic that’s when the actually I think the mall started will know yet that’s actually no that is where the most started I think a little bit but the problem is right when big started I suddenly ran out of storage space on my phone because I forgot that after we saw Joe the other week I didn’t delete the videos and I knew that my phone was running low but I completely forgot the day of and so it ran out as I was recording that cuz I was recording so much so I had to delete Instagram on Spotify but yeah that one’s just I’m really happy that they always play that one I will say

I’ll mention now last time we saw them they played Too Real from that first album and that’s one of my favorite songs by them ever and seeing it in person was like that was actually maybe the first time I’d heard it was at the concert or like actively listen to it and so after seeing it I was like this is an amazing something I kept listening to it and you know the movie that came out that came out last year also that featured song bug and they made a music video to bug and also had to realize like the first song in the movie and then I was like sort of part of ending credits it just like it’s just such a good and real song I mean obviously it’s literally real but I like it feels very like important to right now or the time we’re leaving and I was upset they didn’t play it but I kind of I figured I didn’t see anyone have it on like a set list or anything but it’s just it’s such a good song and it’s such a good like concert level song that it would have been awesome to hear it in person I like yeah I just I really would have loved to hear that one but yeah so I want to hear to real again I hope they play it next time I go see them which I don’t know when it’ll be but I want to see them in Dublin so bad but for me to get tickets it’s going to be impossible I know it but I have dreams anyways next I played a hero’s death that one’s not like my favorite song for the album but I will say that morning I was listening to you know the past that list just to like get myself warmed up and honestly I think he was like the first time I ever listen to this song improperly like took in the words like I knew it was more than one of their more happy songs kind of about like not you know taking advantage of what you have I guess I like being very appreciative of everything in your life and the time that you the low low amount of time that we have on Earth and like being able to spend that time with people we care about and with ourselves and like enjoy that time and the song really like starting to hit I think the morning of the concert and so listening to a person just like I don’t know it’s it’s kind of beautiful because if you just hear it without listening the lyrics with like every song I listen to It’s like takes my mom to realize what the lyrics actually are and then so once you like understand it it’s like I don’t know it takes on a whole different link under obviously understanding and like connection to the song and they’re sort of ideals sort of feels like the beginning of that type of song that they write like there’s a hero’s death I don’t know like amazing to be young there’s another one but I can’t think of right now for some reason oh favorite and I don’t know it’s just like that line of songs I guess this feels sort of like maybe where they started doing that but yeah and then here’s the thing classic have a great video of that it’s a great song in concert I want to say I think I didn’t even appreciate it that much last time and it’s not like a song I listen to what time but it’s just it’s a really fun concert song bug no my favorite song just in general once again personal opinion but yeah I don’t know it’s it’s also like one of their nicer slower songs but it’s not bad I just want my taste hoarseness is the wetness also not my favorite but sort of in that same Vibe I would say horses and witness bug sound down there those are like very similar and Vibe and it’s kind of like to me bit repetitive but in concert there like I said they’re fun cuz you get to hear the other thing Korean and it’s like I really appreciate that appreciated that yeah but then afterwards the song would have been waiting to listen to the entire concert not because my favorite one of my favorite songs by them. Literally the best song they’ve played live in my opinion which is the best song in concert every single time I’ve seen them three times even the first time when I basically I never listened to them before it was already like that was when I basically started listening to them cuz I was like that was such a good song it’s so good in concert it’s still good anytime I listen to it it’s just I don’t know I just hit it just hits in a way where it like it’s literally a concert song There’s I don’t know it’s just it’s meant to be played live I guess and I love songs are like that that are like that and I feel like too real is the same way where they’re Meant To Be Live even if they don’t even if I don’t get a chance to see them live it’s just like that’s where they’re meant to be I guess and I love when artists play those type of songs basically when the live version is almost better than the recorded version or sometimes it is better yeah always my favorite

boys in the better land classic that’s where the Mosh really got hard I mean that’s of course like everyone’s favorite song to listen to this is sort of when I started like zoning out a bit because we’re in the marsh I was sort of like everyone was crowd surfing I was recording it was kind of like I was losing my presents there which kind of sucked by it was so fun obviously I just kind of really dehydrated I started getting like a bit more anxious and I don’t know annoyed with people around me stuff like that you know but I’ll keep going favorite last one before the encore it’s just it’s a great song on its own I mean obviously I know it’s a band’s current favorite song just in such a well written song and it’s a song that I know this isn’t really related to the live version but when it was released it’s like I don’t know it was just a hit in a way where I felt those emotions from the way they wrote the song in a way that I hadn’t really hard in a song for a while like it just like I understood exactly what they meant not just with the words and stuff with the way that they were singing it the way like that feeling of like having someone leave and they’re gone in like sort of that appreciation for them being in your life but knowing that that was it like just kind of reminiscing on that without really necessarily like missing them sort of is just reminiscing that’s all that’s it and The Encore I was surprised cuz they did four songs I don’t remember if they did that last time I think it was just three it was so many songs and I realized I mean I know that they were missing a lot that they normally play because this encourse I think the same that it was last time are very similar four songs in the modern world not my favorite live but I actually do like the recorded version desire it’s so good and I also underwrite it myself but in concerts it’s incredible just the way especially this show really had good what’s it called like lighting compositions for the stage and the way that like it would transition between you know the beginning towards the middle towards the end of Desire yeah then the food I love you classic that song I got a great recording of during the build up the first build up and it’s so good I mean it’s like what they’re most popular song I don’t know but it’s I guess no Starburst but I love you you know the concerts yeah that one I know off the back of my hand I played it so many times myself it’s just my favorite song okay maybe not my favorite song but it’s such a good song Starburst or classic band on for them to end on and it hits it’s fine everyone’s mashing the funniest part was I forgot to mention when everyone washed a favorite that was so funny cuz it was just basically a continued Marsh from boys and better Lance before until the moshley continuing to go on during a favorite it’s just like I don’t know it was like the craziest way to her that song before which I think is why I was also like pretty out of it cuz like I could barely see them I was just like stuck in the mage listening to this song that is it you know everyone was waiting for it it’s so good and it was just you know classic I know this isn’t a lot about like specifically each song it’s just sort of my experience from that night is exhilarating it was fun March was cool yet again got another shirt I was I was if anything it was just more I was very surprised that we showed up like 10 minutes before doors and they were already letting people in and I was worried about us being in the back and somehow we were that close to the front already and then we just got pushed for them for their friend so I was so surprised because last time we were away for their back okay maybe you’re not way farther but a lot for the back then we were this time and got there a lot earlier so it was weird but yeah and then even though that you know it was sold out it was so packed when they saw the videos of different angles and stuff it was crazy to see how many people were in there and just and we were that close exciting thing just as much as I already do great concert they know how to throw a show and it’s just hilarious to me that they only say like two words in the whole show okay maybe like three including free Palestine of course but it’s just like hello that and then thank you and it’s great and I love it and I love them and hopefully I see them at some point and that’ll be fun bye.
